A glycol that works with the preservative system and carries other ingredients.

A humectant derived from sugar beet.

A fatty alcohol from brassica oil. It thickens and stabilises.

A plant-derived conditioning emulsifier used in hair formulas.

A small glycol. Humectant, and a solvent for other ingredients.

The same compound found in coffee, used topically for its tightening sensation.

Part of the preservative system, paired with glyceryl caprylate.

A light ester from coconut. Emollient, and it thins a heavier phase.

A fatty alcohol, not a drying one. It thickens and stabilises an emulsion.

A sugar-derived emulsifier. It holds oil and water together.

Used in trace amounts to bring the finished formula to its target pH.

A secondary surfactant. It softens the feel of the cleansing system.

Fruit extract.

A rich plant oil. Emollient, so it softens and adds slip.

A large protein used here as a film-former. It sits on the surface and gives slip.

Fruit extract.

A sugar-based cleansing agent. The primary surfactant in the wash formulas.

A light ester with a dry finish.

Root extract, long used in traditional preparations.

Warming, aromatic root extract.

A humectant, and among the oldest in use. It draws water into the formula.

A glyceryl ester. Part of the preservative system, and mildly emollient.

An emulsifier. It holds the two phases together.

A botanical extract.

A natural humectant. Water-attracting, and faintly sweet.

A humectant. It draws water in and holds it, which is why a formula built around it feels cushioned rather than tight.

Lupin protein broken into fragments small enough to disperse in water.

Milk protein broken down for solubility, for a soft after-feel.

Rice protein in small fragments, used in hair formulas for body.

A cellulose thickener. It gives the formula body.

A light ester used for slip.

A liquid wax pressed from the jojoba seed, close in structure to skin's own sebum.

The protein hair is made of, used here as a conditioning agent.

An extract of Portulaca oleracea, a succulent that grows readily in hot, dry ground.

Sophora flavescens root, long used in traditional preparations.

A second sugar-based surfactant, worked alongside decyl glucoside.

Aromatic, and part of the scent as much as the formula.

Leaf extract.

A water-soluble form of vitamin B3, used in skincare at low percentages.

A rich emollient.

Provitamin B5. A humectant.

Polydeoxyribonucleotide, used at very low percentages.

A ferment used as the preservative system in place of conventional preservatives.

The water phase of rose distillation. Light, and lightly scented.

Pressed from the fruit of the dog rose, not distilled from petals.

A plant-derived sugar complex. A humectant.

A beta hydroxy acid. Oil-soluble, used at low percentages.

From sandalwood. Warm and resinous, and the heart of Silk Sandal.

Solid butter pressed from the shea nut. Rich and softening.

An amino-acid surfactant derived from coconut.

Aromatic, at a tenth of a percent.

A mineral particle, part of the sun-protection system alongside zinc oxide.

A synthetic compound used in facial formulas.

The sun-protection component. The specific filter is named on the final approved label.

Vitamin C in its pure acid form.

An antioxidant, which also keeps the oils in the formula from turning.

The base the formula is built in, and the largest single component in five of the six.

A fermentation-derived gum. It thickens the water phase.
